WATER’S WITNESS
Documentation of the low tide walk with Creekside Discovery Centre
Water’s Witness was a low tide journey through Deptford Creek—where local ecologies and urban histories converge to inform one of London’s most biodiverse ecosystems. Guided by an expert from Creekside Discovery Centre, this free two-hour walk explored the Creek as a dynamic interface, shaped by constant negotiations between nature and industry, water and land, harmony and precarity.
As we walked along the Creek’s edge, we examined how water informs and affects all life along its banks, offering situated perspectives on climate resilience and flood preparedness, whilst reflecting on how this local landscape mirrors global environmental changes. Immersed in the Creek and its complexities, we acted as witnesses to its current conditions and its possible futures.
Following the walk, participants were invited to a tour of the exhibition Joining Doggerland, led by its curator Shannon Best.
